Lessons learned

Michael and I have been married for nearly a year now and over the course of this last year I have learned some important lessons... (Don't worry you will get a detailed post about our anniversary, whatever we end up doing.)

1. Toilet paper does not automatically replenish itself like it did at Mom's house, someone actually has to go out and buy it.

2. Coupons are a girl's best friend.

3. I finally understand the importance of making the bed every morning, and get quite agitated when it isn't made, and mom thought I'd never learn.

4. Who knew running the A/C (we have a wall unit) could possibly cost so much money.

5. Icemakers, automatic coffee machines, and dishwashers are luxury items.

6. Men aren't very good at remembering to put fabric softener in the wash. "Michael, why are my clothes so rough?"

7. You really cannot force your husband to eat cheese pizza for every meal, they tend to find it a little inhumane.

8. Planting Forget me not flower seeds behind your apartment building, and then actually forgetting about them, doesn't produce flowers, it also doesn't help if you don't plant them deep enough and chimpmunks eat them...

9. A clean house lasts for about 25 minutes.

10. When baking something that requires butter it is always prudent to double check that you got all of the wax paper wrapping off of the stick before, say baking the entire batch of brownies only to bite into the first one and get a big bite of wax paper, yum.

11. Speaking of baking, one should always make sure she has all of the required ingredients before beginning the process. It is hard to make molasses cookies without molasses, or bread without flour.

12. In a one bedroom apartment alone time is golden.

13. Stray cats do not liked to be chased by strangers, nor do they enjoy the words KITTY! being yelled at the.

14. Guys do not understand frilly decorations, or decorations that aren't "useful," but hopefully he will soon stop trying to.

15. U-Scans at grocery stores might be the reason for increased divorce rates. We seriously cannot go through a U-Scan without arguing. We have taken to going through a normal line even if it is long for the sake of our marriage.

16. Everything that Mom made me do at home that I thought was stupid, and she was just trying to give me a hard time about, actually has a purpose. Who knew?

FINALLY...

17. On Augest 2nd of last year I was in love with Michael, and everyone said just wait until you've been married awhile. Well everyone was right, I couldn't imagine loving anyone more a year ago, but now I feel like we have grown, we operate as a team, and the love I had for Michael last year is NOTHING compared to the love that I feel for him now.

Lake Michigan Trip

When we were planning for mom's 50th party we had originally planned it for her actual birthday July 18th, but Nick and Christy had planned to leave for their vacation on the 18th. We had here party on the 11th, but I was bummed because I wanted to be with the Birthday girl on her actual birthday. They decided to come up to visit us in West Lafayette for the weekend. Then we also decided that we should do something fun so we drove up to Michigan City, IN to visit lake Michigan.

Friday mom and dad got to our apartment around noon, and we hit the road. The lake is really only about an hour and a half away but we encountered construction and detours making it about 3hrs away. Not to mention my parent's GPS told us that our hotel was at a church... but we finally made it. We checked into the hotel and rested a few minutes before heading to the Indiana Dunes State Park. After some beach walking we all went to a restaurant called Gelsosomos Pizzeria it was fabulous. After dinner we headed to the outlet mall in Michigan City.

Sarturday, Mom's birthday, we went back to the Outlet mall and bought virtually NOTHING, and then went to a different park where there was a lighthouse. We headed home shortely after that.

This weekend trip was also our 1st Anniversary gift from Mom and Dad. I can't believe that we will have been married almost a year!

Funny story about this picture. As Dad was taking it
a lady passed by and saw my hand signs and said is that 50?
I said that it was her birthday and the lady said, "You sure don't look it,
maybe more like 25!''

Stealing Megan's Not me Monday

So this was totally stolen from Megan Birke's blog, but I just couldn't resist. I do about 10 stupid things a day to embarrass myself.

Not Me! Monday was created so that we could admit all of the embarrassing things we did that week that we would rather forget. Mine aren't all from this week, but entertaining nonetheless

While making scrambled eggs for myself I most certainly did not grab the spice that was where the pepper usually is and accidentally put mustard in my eggs.

I didn't wake up at two in the morning the other day thinking that I had to be at work. Even if I had, I wouldn't prepare my breakfast and all but leave the house before realizing the time.

I would never play stupid when a state trooper pulled me over for failing to signal, by telling him my him that I did signal but it made a funny noise at me. Especially not if I had known it hadn't worked for a year.

I did not get mad at the wii the other day and fling the wii remote while it was still attached to my arm. What a bruise that didn't make.

I did not buy my husband a meat fork, spatula, and measuring cup for our first wedding anniversary, that would be lame.

When I worked at Chuck E Cheese in 11th grade and had to make the announcement of: attention all Chuck E Cheese guests table number 5 your hot delicious pizza is at your table, I absolutely did not announce "Attention all hot delicious guests..." That couldn't have been me.

That was fun!

Nothing short of amazing!

Michael has been diligently searching for a job since somewhere around March/April. We thought he had something locked down in Indianapolis, but when we still hacn't heard anything by mid may we started to get worried. The guy finally answered Michael's call only to tell us that he didn't have anything for Michael.

Between then and now he has applied everywhere, but the places that previously had something had already hired people. There was one place about 15 minutes down the road that we really thought he might have a chance at, but they ended up not hiring anyone. Talk about discouraging. We had a a hard week.

Then, last week Michael agreed to sub a day of delivering papers for a man from our church. He only made $20, but it was something. On tuesday of that week, a day after Michael delivered papers we got Michael's financial aid statement. This was the first year that he has not been claimed by his parents. We received nearly double the amount of what he will need for school. We were thrilled. Especially when we found out that everything over the amount for his school they direct deposit into our checking account! What's even better is that amount is almost exactly what we needed for Michael to make this summer for us to be able to live somewhat comfortably.

God is good!
