Wednesday morning was our work Christmas party. We had a fancy lunch with salmon, shrimp, and a bunch of other things that I don't like. We each had a secret santa gift. My secret santa got me a $10 starbucks giftcard! Just what I had been wanting (I guess that is why I put it on my list and underlined it 2x). I was also nominated for employee of the month! I didn't win, but still it is nice to know I am doing well. Then the hotel gave us our Christmas gift a $15 Walmart giftcard,
They also gave everyone a number when they came in. They drew numbers and when your number was called you got to go up to the table and pick a gift. There were some really nice gifts, like there were several 1 night stay gift certificates at various places in Indiana. I wasn't drawn early enough to get one of those, but I did get something that made last night extra special! There is a restaraunt, La Scala, that Michael had been wanting to try since we first started dating. However, this restaraunt is about $20 per person, which is a little high for us. I got a $20 gift certificate for La Scala. Which brings us to last night...
Yesterday was kind of a hard day for me. My mom was hosting the Smith family dinner last night, and I was unable to attend. I don't get to see that side of the family very often and I really missed getting to see all of them. But Michael was so adorable in trying to cheer me up. He put on a santa hat, and we danced, and sang Christmas songs, maybe that will be our new tradition!
Then, I got all dressed up, and so did Michael. We went out to La Scala and Michael had a dinner with veal and other stuff. He really loved it. I on the other hand...didn't see anything that I wanted. Well, other than dessert. We had a fantastic time at dinner and we opted for tiramisu for dessert, which happens to be my favorite of all time. Michael also was such a gentleman last night. When we first started dating he always opened doors and offered me a hand when getting out of the car. Since we have been married that hasn't been happening as much. It was really great to have a date night out and to feel so special!
Now, if you are wondering what I ate for dinner other than Tiramisu, I didn't eat dinner at La Scala. After Michael ate, and I had dessert, Michael took ME out for a special treat. I have been dying to have some Papa Johns cheestix. That is exactly what I had for dinner last night. We are an unconventional pair, but we sure do have fun!
Michael and I get to come home on Wednesday and I am off until that following Tuesday! We will spend Christmas Eve and Christmas day with my parents and Hammond family, and then we will celebrate Christmas Eve and Christmas day with the Carusos on the 26th and 27th. I have pre-planned lunch with Megan Birke, and I cannot wait to see her baby bump! We are going to church at CIC YAY!!!!!!! I can't wait!

Thanksgiving day at work...
Working on Thanksgiving, you would think that would be a major bummer, right? Well, let me tell you what I have done since I got here:
Arrived 6:50 am
Finished everything but end of shift balancing 7:30
Gobbled into the walkie talkie (4x)
Talked to my GM about cats
Watched TV
Watched the Macy's parade
Had a bacon english muffin (gotten especially for me)
Watched more tv
Talked to people on my phone
Read my book
Gobbled into the walkie talkie (again)
The time is currently 11:07am. I am halfway through my shift, and I have to say it really has not been too bad. I cannot wait to get home to see my family and friends!

Slow dancing
Michael and I love to play the card game UNO. Last night we were playing UNO on the kitchen table and Michael turned on some country music, because none of the country stations up her come in very well and I miss my country music. So when we finished playing uno, Michael and I slow danced to some of my favorite country songs. It was so sweet and borderline romantic, except for the fact that I was in my flamingo pajama pants. Sorry to the OMCs (old married couples) that now want to vomit.

Purdue v IU , shopping, birthday gift?

Today in Ross Ade Stadium there is this little football game going on. This game is against Purdue's biggest rival, Indiana. Last night a friend of mine called and told me he had a ticket that was free for my use. Even though it is currently 21 degrees in West Lafayette today, I will be braving the weather, because this is the type of game you just don't pass up! Last I heard tickets were selling for somewhere around $400, yikes! This game also marks coach Tiller's last game. Michael, who doesn't like football very much will not be going as it is too cold and he has lots of homework to complete and there was only one ticket offered. Both Indiana and Purdue are quite...hmmm how to put this nicely...terrible this year, so it really could go either way. Boiler Up!
Other excitement, yesterday I went shopping and found an amazing clearance rack at JCPenney. I bought shoes, capri pants, and shirts, all for 1.58. That is my favorite kind of shopping. Also, I got a birthday present in the mail from my good friend Julie. It is so typical Julie to be late, but it makes her all the more loveable!
I will be in town next Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun. I can't wait to see Luke (he will be 1 on Friday), go shopping with my mom at 4 am, and see my grandparents who have been quite ill here lately!

When Michael gets home...
When Michael gets home tonight I have a very special evening planned for him. We are currently trying to save money, so for right now we have to get creative for our date nights. Today I went to the library and checked out Michael's all time favorite TV show Jeeves and Wooster. I also found a coffee that is supposed to taste like Irish Creme (he loves Irish creme) for 1.00 at Target. Mix that with the fact that I have cleaned top to bottom, and gotten us a twix bar (we are watching our weight) I think tonight should be fantastic!! He will be thrilled!

Please pray for this girl!!!
Someone Michael dated in high school had a baby this week. Her baby was premature and died. I barely know her, but I would like to ask all of the people here in blog world to pray for this girl. I cannot imagine the pain she must be feeling. The baby was a girl and her name was Lillian Elisabeth.

Calling all liberals...
I have expressed my opinion on facebook. My status has stated that I don't believe in abortion. And that I was a McCain supporter. I have had a ton of liberals sending me messages, calling me ignorant, and attempting to twist bible verses so that abortion doesn't seem wrong. I am sure that the majority of the people reading this agree with me on many of these points, I know at least some do.
I understand that people are entitled to their opinions, but when they start attacking my opinion that when it gets ridiculous. I know very well that if you state your opinion you had better expect to meet some opposition, but when someone calls you ignorant for a status (that was not directed at that person) that is too much. I encourage people to think before they comment. It just makes you look silly when you get all hot and bothered by a status update. If intelligent people want to have intelligent conversations, I'm game, but I refuse to be called names or argued with when I have done nothing wrong!
On the first occasion I had written as a status "Laura is wondering when america became a socialist nation. Sorry, I don't want to pay someone else's way because you want something for nothing."
Msg 1
Just to let you know I'm a democrat with a job that pays upwards of $15 dollars per hour and have a management position lined up after graduation starting at $60,000/year. Not so lazy!!! Typical Republican response, hide the truth by taking me off your friends list!!!
**note I will not post names**
My response
"I refuse to act like a liberal and continue the arguing. I don't care what you think. You don't like my status, fine, that's why it is my status NOT yours. I will NEVER agree that Barack Obama was a good choice. But I also find it interesting that so many people that voted for him were people that don't work, and I do realize that many people do work that voted for him. It isn't about money and it never has been. Wow my husband and I will be making $120,000+, big deal! That is irrelevant! My choice is just that, my choice. Your choice is, you guessed it, yours! So congratulations on your choice. Enjoy having Obama in office.
May God bless you and your family! I will be praying for our president and our country, because we can all agree that this country needs help.

On the second occassion my status and I were called ignorant. I decided that I, 1. don't really know the person well (a cousin of someone I am an acqaintance of), and 2. refuse to be called names, so I removed her as a friend. Mind you I had never even said anything to this girl, and this came out of the blue. Today when I got home this message was waiting for me.
Her message:
Yes you are. I, as well as you, have the right to vote for whoever but not the right to criticize other people! Its called class, and you obviously don't have any. You are also extremely mature...deleting me as a friend? really, are you in middle school or what? A little advice in the future, keep ignorant thoughts to youself!
My response:
You are the one that commented on MY STATUS! So why don't you keep your ignorance to yourself. Grow up. If you call me ignorant you better expect to hear about it! It is my opinion, and the reason you are no longer on my friend list, is due to the fact that you are not mature enough to respect someone's opinion. So before you go accusing someone of having no class take a look at yourself. Let the record show that you were the FIRST to criticize. You have no argument here.

There were several other messages from these people calling me a variety of names, that I will not post as they are incredibly offensive. I am sad and hurt (I actually cried when McCain gave his concession speech), but the truth is the people calling names and trying to start fights aren't helping their causes. They only make themselves look worse.
I am a Republican, I believe that babies have the right to be born, I believe that marriage is for 1 man and 1 woman. I believe the truths of the bible. I believe that even though this choice of presidents is not going to help further Christ's will, our Lord and Savior is still in control. He is the best, only leader that has the capacity to truly take care of me.
I am a Republican, through thick and thin. I will vote again in four years for another Republican (hopefully Mrs. Palin!). I pray that president elect Barack Obama will be changed by God, but if he is not I take solace in the fact that Obama isn't really my leader, my heavenly father is!
I pray that God will change the hearts and minds of the people that threw their values out the window because someone told them he could create change, except we haven't been told exactly what that change is. Or because Obama told them he could fix the economy.
Liberals are God's people as much as Conservatives. Please let's treat each other with a little respect, no matter the political view.
I have disabled comments for this post, as people on sites such as this have proven to be incapable of being responsible with their words. (no one on here in particular)
